Last year, my photograph of dancing praying mantises titled "Danlock" won first prize in the macro category and the overall prize of the CEWE 2025 Photography Competition, selected from 656,000 entries. Therefore, I was entitled to the grand prize of the competition.
The grand prize included €2,500 worth of photo and catalog printing, €5,000 worth of photography equipment, and a €10,000 helicopter flight and tour of New York City with known American aerial photographer George Steinmetz.
Last week, from August 5th to 12th, I was in New York City. On Wednesday, August 8th, I met George Steinmetz. Under the leadership of George Steinmetz, they conducted a helicopter flight lasting approximately one hour. George Steinmetz explained the destinations to be photographed during the helicopter flight to me, provided detailed information on helicopter photography techniques, how to adjust the camera settings, which lenses to prefer and how to use equipment in the face of shaking and strong winds.
During the flight, I and George Steinmetz photographed tourist destinations (popular tourist spots), skyscrapers, and important architectural structures of New York City.
“I had a wonderful week with my family in New York City. We took many photos and created unforgettable memories. But most importantly, it was the helicopter flight I had with the famous photographer George Steinmetz. It was an unforgettable moment and a unique experience for me. Flying and taking photos with a world-known master photographer like George was a great honor and source of pride for me.
Photography is a universal art form, whıch transcends boundaries and knows no obstacles. For photographers like myself, confined to Northern Cyprus, having such opportunities abroad and being in contact with photographers from other countries undoubtedly contributes to self-improvement, renewal, and experience. Unfortunately, participating in such events (workshops, exhibitions, and photography tours) with our own resources puts a great strain on our budgets. Thanks to the opportunities we create with our own means and skills, we try to contribute to the promotion of both ourselves and our country by sharing our works, our art, and photographs of our country.”
